Working Together for New Harbour: The Role of Our Local Service District
Life in a small community is built on neighbours helping neighbours. In New Harbour, Newfoundland, that spirit of cooperation is at the heart of our Local Service District (LSD). An LSD is a volunteer committee, elected by residents, that works to provide and organize essential services for our community.

While not a municipality, the New Harbour Local Service District plays a vital role in ensuring our town has the services we depend on every day. Here’s an overview of what the committee provides, and the valued partnerships that make it possible:
Fire Protection & Emergency Services
Safety is always a top priority. Our LSD works hand-in-hand with the New Harbour Emergency Committee and the Seaside Volunteer Fire Department to make sure fire protection and emergency response are in place for our residents. This collaboration gives peace of mind, knowing help is close when needed most.
Fees can be sent directly to Seaside Fire Department or New Harbour Local Service District.
In case of emergency call: 911 or 709-582-1111.
Garbage Collection & Waste Management
A clean community is a healthy community. Through our partnership with The Eastern Regional Services Board, garbage collection and waste management are handled efficiently for New Harbour households. This ensures our town remains tidy and environmentally responsible.
Payments can be made directly to The Eastern Regional Service Board:

Road Maintenance
New Harbour’s roads are essential for everyday life—from getting to work to visiting family. The LSD collaborates with The Province of Newfoundland's Department of Transportation & Infrastructure to ensure road maintenance is completed where it’s needed, especially during challenging winter months when snow clearing is vital for safe travel.
Requests for road maintenance & safety concerns can be made directly to the DOT:
- Phone: (709) 292-4364
- Email: ti@gov.nl.ca
Community Recreation & Public Spaces
Beyond basic services, our LSD also supports quality of life through recreation and public spaces. In partnership with the New Harbour Parks Committee, we help create and maintain safe, welcoming areas where families can gather, children can play, and residents can enjoy the outdoors.
Who We Are: Your Local Service District Board
The strength of the LSD comes from the dedicated volunteers who step up to serve. The current board members are:
- Chair: Brian Cranford
- Vice-Chair: Fred Woodman
- Secretary: Sherry-Lee Williams
- Treasurer: Petrina Pollett
- Board Members: Jason Pollett, Wanda-Lee Bowen, and Simon Murphy
These community members volunteer their time and energy to ensure New Harbour continues to be a safe, connected, and welcoming place to live.
Keeping New Harbour Strong
The Local Service District of New Harbour is more than a committee—it’s a reflection of our community’s commitment to each other. By working together with local partners and the residents we serve, the LSD helps preserve what makes our town special while planning for its future.
